"You may leave Liverpool, but Liverpool never leaves you" .jpg)
This guide was suggested by friends I’d shown around Liverpool.
They said “We’ve had a great time, what a shame everyone who visits can’t get the same insider's guide.”
So that’s what I’ve put together, a rich insight into the stories that the city streets have to tell.
The guide includes the Beatles because that is why many people visit Liverpool. We are proud of them and we’re also proud of so much more of our heritage, part of which has been recognised by our UNESCO World Heritage City status, and our European Capital of Culture 2008 award.
In these pages we'll be following in the footsteps of……
Jack the Ripper…. Jules Verne… the Beadle… the Beatles…. the Resurrection Men…. Pirates and Slavers… Crimps and the Press Gangs… Mother Redcap… The Great Famine… the Patriot… the Confederate Agent…. the Black Widows… Napoleonic Romantics… Amazing Grace… St. Patrick… Sir Gawain… Prince Rupert… Adolph Hitler… Charles Dickens… Little Chalkie… the Mole of Edge Hill… Florence Nightingale… Gentleman Jim… Herman Melville… Your Ancestors?… Johnny Walker… Dr.Crippen… William Roscoe… Jeremiah Horrocks… Dr.Duncan… George Stubbs… Noel Chavasse V.C. .. the immortal Gambler……
to name but a few.
I’ve followed a simple format. Most tours are designed to last an easy 3-4 hours with time for a coffee and a bite to eat en-route. If you’re feeling energetic you can link two tours to make a long(ish) day. Equally if you want a shorter tour, you can choose where to break off. You will find Liverpool people friendly, helpful and keen to chat to you. At the same time you will find a sharp wit, and an ability to laugh at adversity.
Have a great time!
